Our dear friend Bill died unexpectedly on November 27, 2005.
Most people know Bill for his brilliant intellect (during all those years, he always had a project he was working on, a book or a course). That was his passion, tackling a problem, breaking it down to its essentials. In fact, he died, preparing a course he was going to deliver, starting the next day, at the new Bahá'í inspired college in Stratford.
But he had many other wonderful qualities. He was upright, selfless, disciplined, dedicated, loving, humble. He acted on his convictions. He had remarquable intellectual honesty, seeking the truth of a matter, and pursuing that truth as far as he could. His faith in the Cause of Bahá'u'lláh was deep and strong. And it was not just a sentiment or a concept, it was something he was ready to sacrifice a lot for. Moving to Russia in his retirement years was one demonstration of the depth of his commitment.
In addition to all that, he was a great family man and he had a unique sense of humour. (When we visited Judy and Bill last year, he wanted us to listen to this recording by William Shatner "You'll Have Time". One of those things that tickled his funny bone...)
I love him, admire him and miss him.
The Universal House of Justice wrote this at his passing.
The Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'ís of Montréal wrote this to his family.
His grandaughter had this to "say" about her grandpa.
