Louis Brunet graduated in 1977 from Laval University with a Bacchelor in Visual Communication. After a few years of freelance work in Quebec City he came to Ottawa in 1981 to take advantage of the favorable market conditions created by the booming high tech industry.
In 1982 he joined Bell-Northern Research, the R&D branch of Northern-Telecom, as a graphic designer. In 1994 a new opportunity presented itself. He joined Nortern-Telecom to create a new capability for multimedia production. This led to the creation of what became known later as the Multimedia Studio, a group of eight people plus a number of freelance contractors. For a period of six years this team built a reputation for outstanding productions, mixing and matching elements of interactive design, video, animation and web work to the benefit of Nortel and its customers.
Switching to a different set of challenges he joined Nortel's Optical Components division in 2001. The responsibility there was to manage the creation of a new marketing web site and preliminary work to introduce eBusiness practices to the organization. 2001 was the year the bottom fell off the telecommunications market. In January of that year Optical Components had about 10,000 employees. By the time Louis was laid off in November there were 4,000 employees left.
Since then Louis has started a completely new career, but one that he is as passionate about, wrestling with words. He does translation.
